When it comes to the food that we consume today we have taken on the concept with out with the old and in with the new. Meaning that a lot of the ingredients that were used in old-time recipes have been replaced with more modern and exciting ones. Not to mention that in some cases healthier ones. Here is a collection of old-time recipes that may by today’s standards seem a little strange. Even though many of them are ones that we still do use the recipes for they have been signifcantly modified.
1)Tuna and Jell-o Pie
The thought of combining jello with tuna is one that is just too much to bear for sompe people. A tuna sandwitch followed with a bowl of jello for desert may be okay but not having them both on the same plate.
2) Crispy Cheese Wafers
With the ability to be able to buy all different types of crackers not many are going to resort to a rice cereal to make what can be easily bought and ones that are made with more modern ingredients.
3)Ham and Bananas Hollandaise
There are some people who have forgiving tastebuds and maybe would find a mixture of bananas in hollandaise sauce to be spread over boiled ham appealing. Chances are there are a whole lot who would not.
4) Ham Salad
Nobody likes to waste foods and when there are leftovers it is nice to be creative. But mixing cream cheese with leftover ham maybe just a little too much.
Getting the family to eat fruit is still a priority of today but this old-time recipe of heathy eating sort of defeats the purpose. The addition of the heavy creams and the maraschino cherries are not really being fat conscious.

Sometimes the completed was recipe was just so strange looking that it had an appeal of its own. Gelatine was often used to hold a whole bunch of ingredients together like this salad for example.

Whenever in doubt as to what to serve an unexpected guest there was nothing easier or cheaper than a cucumber sandwich. It was always a good idea to have plenty of cream cheese in the house as almost anything could be whipped up with it.
9)Seven-Up With Milk
It has always been a problem to get the kids to drink their milk. So parents in the past would combine 7-up with milk just so they could get the kids to take the milk. Not something that maybe modern-day parents would approve of.
10)Fiesta Peach Spam Bake
Another classic way of sprucing up some spam. Spam was something that was found in almost every kitchen cupboard.
For those who are looking for some different ways to use their Miracle Whip it may be time to turn back the clock and look at some of these old fashioned ideas.
Okay almost everyone loves mayonnaise but to turn this into a jello is almost unthinkable. Yet, it was a golden oldie for some. Aside from what it may taste like it was certainly a conversation starter.
For those who love their hot dogs but don’t have the buns to go with it, then maybe this pie will be the next best thing.

This is probably not a dish that you want to consider if the kids are not bean lovers. But, in the past, it was a great way of using up the abundance of beans from the garden.

For those who have run out of ideas for what to do with the tomatoes that they have grown they may want to resort to this but only if they can handle the jelly.

Most would think that the use of canned veggies in the old days would be a no-no. That everything would be from farm to table. Well, this wasn’t always the case. There were times where the recipes would call for a tin of mixed veggies that would be turned into a salad.

Cucumbers are good no matter how you eat them. But mixing sour cream with them just might not be to everyone’s liking.
