Deer sees man eating apple, so she brings over her baby to meet him
A man found the perfect spot to enjoy nature and share a treat with the local deer. And he got quite a sight once he earned their trust.

In Southern Ontario, there’s a forest where the deer have learned to trust humans. Or at least one human.

It’s a no-hunting zone, so they roam freely and happily without much fear of harm (though they still have a healthy fear of strangers).

An apple a day

As far as we know, their one and only friend (or shall we say patron) is a man they’ve decided to come near because he shares his apples with them.

In fact, the sound of that first, crispy bite is what brings them out of the trees.

Of course, in general, it’s not a great idea to feed wild animals. They have to learn not to rely on humans for food.

They also tend to pick up bad habits, like begging and stealing human food, which brings them into the line of danger. When they learn to associate people with food, they can also become aggressive.

Alas, as a lone deer feeder, we can’t help but give this guy a pass (so long as no one decides to follow in his footsteps).

Going viral

With over a million views on just one of his many online videos, it appears people enjoy watching him get up close to these beautiful creatures.

The Canadian man’s videos started to go viral in 2018, but more recent videos are making the rounds as well – and it appears he’s still at it!

In his first two videos, it’s amazing to see how graceful these animals are, even when they are being cautious.

They weren’t too sure about the apples at first, but he never tried to hand-feed them. He simply took a bite and tossed it off a few feet so they didn’t have to come close.

Some commenters joked that this guy might just be a Disney princess in disguise.

Bringing in baby

In one particularly sweet moment, a mother deer watched the man closely to make sure he could be was safe before signaling to the others that it was ok to approach and partake in the ample apple buffet.

She even brought along her fawn! And according to the video caption, that was a rare event.

“This man waited until the deer were very close and he began eating an apple and throwing pieces on the ground. The deer ran to share it with him. The surprising part was that they actually brought their fawns over too,” it reads.

Does (you know, a deer, a female deer) are very protective of her offspring, so her judgment that it was safe to bring it by along with the rest of the pack allowed him a rare Bambi sighting.

“Does typically hide their fawns in the long grass, often separately, in order to protect them from predators…Fawns are always watching their mother and she will use a complex set of tail and ear movements to communicate with them…This man had an incredibly rare treat as she brought her fawns very close,” the caption explained.

And while, once again, it’s important not to rush out and try this, commenters on the video were largely engaged (instead of enraged, as usual) about the man’s forest feeding.

What can we say? It’s fascinating to watch the natural world in action. And the bright, green surroundings made it look like such a special place.

Of course, people were begging to visit the location. It seems people don’t realize that their very presence is what makes it less of a beautiful, natural landscape.

People tried guessing at the location and one mentioned they thought it was a sanctuary in Apsley, an hour north of Peterborough, Ontario, but that wasn’t confirmed.
