It’s hard to imagine what kind of person would throw an animal out of a moving vehicle.

Sadly, these two adorable beagles know just who it was. Trooper and Adam are an adorable duo whose owner tossed them out the window of their SUV onto Interstate 81 in New York last December.

Luckily, a kind and caring truck driver named Adam, from Syracuse, NY, saw it happen and rushed to rescue them.

State troopers who were patrolling the highway saw Adam’s truck pulled to the side of the road with the door open and stopped to investigate. That’s when they jumped into action as well.

The dogs are named after Adam, the truck driver who saved them, and the state troopers who recovered them from the roadside.

According to WBNG NY, the troopers saw the truck driver carrying the badly injured Trooper across the road, with Adam trailing behind them.

A state police K-9 unit then arrived on the scene to stop Trooper’s bleeding and put a splint on his badly broken leg while the troopers kept him warm with the truck driver’s sweatshirt.

The dogs were then taken to the Broome County Humane Society where Todd Hubik and his team of veterinarians helped nurse them back to health. Hubik called the ordeal a “heartwrenching experience” in an interview.

The canine besties had to be separated for a few weeks since Trooper’s injuries were so bad that he had to be transferred to another animal hospital and even lost one of his front legs.

But that hasn’t stopped him from regaining his health and being happily reunited with his former roomie.

It was a heartwarming scene when the dogs were reunited after their time apart.

And both dogs are getting a happy ending. They were adopted by a loving couple who can’t wait to take them home.

Their new mom, Connie Miller said it was love at first sight:

“As soon as they walked into the room…it was just…they’re going home.”

Upon their adoption, Hubik said “it’s really a bittersweet day. But it’s nice to see them go home to such an amazing family.”

The Broome County Humane Society received so many donations after people heard about the poor pups that all of their expenses were covered, and then some. They told Facebook followers:

“We have received enough donations to cover our expenses thus far which is fantastic! We will continue to provide for their needs until they find their forever homes.”

Their new parents were chosen from over 100 adoption applicants.

Their new dad, Roger Miller, said of the pups:

“Adam is just full of life. He just loves to play, run, fetch, catch. And Tropper’s just kind of the laid back kind of dog. He loves his partner…it’s awesome.”

And Mrs. Miller reiterated how lively the two were, despite their ordeal.

“They’re full of energy and you’d never think something this tragic had happened to them.”

As for the driver who callously threw the dogs from their SUV, a reward was donated to locate and punish them. Local, state, and national animal welfare groups and private donors raised $16,500 for information that led to their arrest. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on whether the culprits have been located.

But Trooper and Adam are in good hands now.
