Plenty of videos and pictures appear on the Internet after a kitten or a puppy is saved. This story is about an animal being saved, but it’s not the type of news that usually breaks.

Steve Haley, who is a chef, is now known as a hero. While he enjoys going on safari trips, this trip turned out a little bit different than the rest. When Haley was driving through Kruger National Park in South Africa, he spotted an animal who needed saving.

Spotting the impala

The animal was a wild impala trapped in mud. This was no family pet. This was a wild animal.

Haley was on a self-safari when he found the impala. He describes this safari as saying:

“I was on my own during a self-safari where I take a tent, rent a car and camp in the park for eight weeks.”

Haley proceeded to get out of his car and help the impala. The animal was stuck in the mud and couldn’t get out.

Surrounding the trapped impala was its herd. They were patiently waiting for their friend to become unstuck and join them. Haley might have been slightly frightened by the number of animals near the impala, but he knew what he had to do.

The herd knew that the stuck impala might get eaten by predators if it was left alone. Haley knew this too, which is why he acted quickly.

The rescue

Naturally, the herd surrounding the trapped impala ran away as Haley’s car drove past. In the video, it looks like the impala attempts to run out of the mud when the rest of its herd disperses.

After Haley got out of his car, he approached the impala. He was careful so that he wouldn’t startle the animal. Haley removed his socks and shoes to keep them clean. He then leaned over the edge of the muddy water.

With a good amount of force, Haley was able to pull the impala out of the mud by its antlers.

Free at last!

The impala rested on the edge of the muddy water for a few moments before running off to join its herd.

He was limping a little but it seemed like the impala would be okay. Thanks to one brave man, at least he wasn’t stuck anymore!

Haley stepped up and did the right thing. His help was critical to the impala’s survival.

A real hero

What is somewhat surprising is that Haley didn’t appear to be scared at all. Although the animal seemed harmless, it was still a wild animal. The impala’s herd could have harmed Haley as well. Haley remained brave and used his knowledge from prior safaris.

Imagine what could have happened to the poor impala without the help of Haley. It’s safe to say that he is a hero!

In the video, the impala definitely seemed worn out. It looked as if the poor animal had been stuck for a decent amount of time, just waiting for some help.

Who knows how long the poor impala was stuck for! Luckily, it didn’t have to struggle any longer after Haley saved the day!

We’re all happy that Haley worked up the courage and rescued the wild animal from the muddy water so that it could rejoin its herd. We’re sure that impala is grateful as well.
