There has been a viral trend going around on the Internet lately thanks to singer/songwriter/producer Blanco Brown’s hit single “The Git Down.”
The artist has helped pen and produce songs for major artists like Chris Brown and Pitbull, but when he finally decided to release his debut single earlier this year it quickly blew up, garnering over 50 million streams on Spotify and taking over the world wide web.
The song is a hybrid of country and rap and it has started a new trend called The Git Up Challenge. Basically, people all over the country record themselves dancing to the song. It’s all kinds of people, too — teenagers, adults, a very talented baby, and even a pregnant lady who was attempting to induce labor to the song. We love the dedication!
It doesn’t even end there though. The song was also danced to by construction workers, nurses, married couples, and so many more. We’re telling you, it’s a pretty big trend right now.
The craziness doesn’t end there, though. Blanco Brown released the official video for the song (which is off his debut album Honeysuckle & Lightning Bugs) back in September and he really played up the viral success of the song by including people’s challenge videos in the actual music video. As we see him put on his headphones and sit at his laptop jamming to the song, it cuts to several different groups of people performing along to it and it is so much fun to watch.
The latest people to now take on the challenge are these hilarious Nordstrom rack employees. But what makes their performance even more special than ever is the freestyle at the end.
But backtrack to the beginning and you will see most of the employees wearing on-brand cowboy hats. As Blanco sings, “Take it to the left now and dip with it/ Throw down, take a sip with it,” the employees oblige with a very put-together dance routine.
They all work together and move in perfect unison, nailing each move and following Blanco’s dance move instructions. They are all clearly having a blast as they seem to have found the perfect space in Nordstrom to film the silly dance.
“To the left, to the left now/ To the right, to the right/ Now take your left hand and put it on your side/ Go roll your shoulders/ Do the slip and slide,” Blanco continues to rap-sing. They incorporate other props in addition to the cowboy hats, like bandanas and even cups to take “sips” out of.
The best part, as we mentioned before, comes around the 2:15 minute-mark when the group decides to dive into a killer freestyle session.
When the time comes to do whatever they want, the group breaks out on each side of the space, supporting one another. Two people jump in the center and jump around in a circle and clank their prop cups to celebrate.
Then they all move back to the center and do whatever they want while laughing and smiling nonstop. It’s so cute, it’s bound to put you in the best mood ever.
