As every pet owner and animal lover knows: each and every furry friend is unique. They all have their own personalities, habits, and reactions. And they all have little things that make their appearance truly one of a kind as well. Sometimes, those special little features are a little out of the ordinary.
That’s the case with this beautiful dog who definitely doesn’t look like any other out there!
Named Betty, this cutie was just 10 days old when she was found roaming the streets as a stray in the Russian city of Bratsk. She was taken from the streets to a local shelter, where workers immediately noticed her black eyebrows.
It’s a sad fact that many stray dogs can be abused by mean people with no regard for the feelings of animals. Shelter workers see all kinds of sad stories, so it was only natural for the workers to assume that, once again, a mean trick had been played on a poor pup.
However, when they started to try and clean the eyebrows off, the workers realized that they were actually just a natural part of the dog’s fur.
They’re actually just like birthmarks, inherited from her parents.
The dog’s eyebrows were a special gift from nature, and when the workers were trying to decide what to name her, they noticed a striking resemblance to famed Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo. Frida was known for her iconic self-portraits and her thick, bushy eyebrows.
So, the shelter decided to call the dog Frida and immediately started snapping some photos and uploading them online, hoping someone would fall in love with Frida’s unique look and give her the forever home she deserved.
The shelter was quickly inundated with messages. Lots of people fell in love with Frida, including one lady named Oksana. Oksana really liked Frida’s big eyes and beautiful birthmarks, and she knew they were meant to be together.
She visited the shelter, learning that other people had visited Frida but refused to adopt her after seeing how she looked in reality. Oksana, however, wasn’t phased at all by Frida’s appearance. In fact, she cried with happiness as soon as she held her in her arms for the first time.
Oksana took Frida home and decided to give her a brand new name: Betty. Little Betty was quite a nervous pup upon arriving at her new home. She wasn’t quite sure what was going on and needed to be carried all the way to the vet for some check-ups and vaccinations. However, everything has been going smoothly since then.
Oksana says that Betty is “smart, affectionate, and loves children… I look at her and always smile. I am lucky to have the best dog in the world.”
We’re thrilled that this story has ended so happily for both Oksana and Betty. There are so many dogs out there in shelters waiting for their forever homes, and it’s wonderful that Betty found hers so quickly.
