Members of the private Facebook group, contacted Island Health Hospital in anticipation for the recent snowstorm after they had shuttled workers during the last, ‘snowpocalypse’

When the 2019 winter brought with it some harsh blizzards and dangerous roads, the truck group began shuttling any hospital workers who needed a ride to work. They do so completely free of charge, not asking for anything in return.

“I’ve been running all the way from Sooke to San Penn and anywhere in between. By the end of today, I’ll be up to 20 myself and from all walks of life too, from doctors to housekeeping staff and everywhere in between.” Shelby Newcome, one of the volunteer drivers told CTV News

The volunteer drivers helped get over 100 workers to work on-time during the last snowstorm and plan on continuing to help

It’s nice to see the truck lovers give back, many of them have been cared for by the same workers they’re helping and some were born in the hospitals they’re helping. Either way, they’re making a huge difference and we love it!

“These guys they’ve patched me up 100 times, they delivered my little boy here at this hospital, I was actually born here too so it’s nice to give back to them.” Said Newcombe, he went on to say: “It’s totally just free of charge, but people have been donating money for gas and banana bread like I mentioned which was a big hit.”
